In the modern world, with the development in technology and the rapid advancement in the medical field, surgeries are becoming less complex day by day and more accessible to a large demographic of people. More lives are being saved and greater numbers of medical feats are achieved because of the different kinds of surgeries emerging in the medical field. However, certain surgical specialties are still too expensive and out of the reach of the poor. Measures are being taken to bridge this gap and make these medical facilities available to everyone, irrespective of financial status. As of August 2000 the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has branded surgery as a human right under the right to health as the right to enjoy and maintain the highest level of health.
